Strategy & roadmapping
A roadmap is only useful if someone can follow it. We spend a few weeks with your systems, your teams and your constraints, then write a plan with honest costs, a realistic sequence and the reasoning attached - one you can take to the board and to a delivery team on the same day.
Service details
At a glance
- A current-state review of systems, teams and processes
- Opportunities sized and ranked against business outcomes
- A costed, sequenced roadmap with owners and milestones
- Success metrics agreed before work starts
Where roadmaps usually go wrong
Transformation programmes rarely stall for lack of ambition. They stall because the plan lives in a slide deck no team can execute, or because priorities were set by whoever argued loudest. Both problems have the same cure: start from what is true. So we begin with your systems as they are, your people as they are, and the constraints nobody put on a slide.
What the work looks like
The first weeks are spent listening - structured workshops, interviews, and time with the systems themselves. Your team already knows where the difficulties are; our job is to get that knowledge into the plan. From there we size each opportunity, weigh value against effort and risk, and sequence the work so early wins pay for the harder moves later.
- Workshops and interviews with the people who own the outcomes
- Each opportunity costed and weighed, with trade-offs written down
- Early wins sequenced first, to build momentum and fund what follows
What you take away
A prioritised, costed roadmap with milestones, owners and success metrics - and the reasoning behind every call, so the plan survives being questioned. It is written to stand on its own: you can have us help deliver it, hand it to your own teams, or put it out to tender. Nothing in it depends on us staying involved.
- A board-ready strategy and business case
- A sequenced delivery roadmap with owners and milestones
- Assumptions and risks stated, not buried
Keeping it alive
Plans meet reality quickly. Because priorities are tied to outcomes rather than dates on a wall chart, the roadmap can be re-sequenced without falling apart when the ground shifts - and if you want a second pair of eyes when it does, we are happy to come back and help you re-plan.
Frequently asked questions
- How long does a roadmapping engagement take?
- Two to six weeks for most organisations, depending on how much estate there is to understand and how many people need to be heard. We agree the scope and the price before we start.
- Do we have to use you to deliver the roadmap?
- No. It is written so any competent team can pick it up. Some clients deliver it themselves, some ask us to help - either way the plan is yours.
- Who needs to be involved from our side?
- Whoever owns the outcomes and whoever understands the current systems - usually a mix of business and technical people. We keep the demands on their calendars light and do the write-up ourselves.
- How do you decide what to prioritise?
- Value unlocked, weighed against the effort and risk to deliver it, judged against outcomes we agree at the start. Every call is written down with its reasoning, so if you disagree you can see exactly what to challenge.
